Red, I've had good luck with a high strength, high-temperature resistant
silicone based tape. It is non-adhesive, only sticks to itself, but has tremendous stretch and grips tightly to most sub-strates.
I bought the first batch at a boat-show, 3, 10ft rolls/$20. Pricey, but worth it.
A similar product is available from Duluth Trading, the work-clothes source. Their tape is thinner, which makes it more compliant, easier to stretch around connectors and wire. Stretch at least 50% and overlap at least 50%. Because it takes a few hours to "Set", tape the last wrap/tag end with masking tape to insure that the end lies flat.
This stuff is great. Never hardens, never oozes adhesive goo. Good to 500 degrees F
Sometimes available on that auction site, but almost never in Black.
I renewed all the electric boots on an SPG 3 years ago, still looks great.
Mike
