i bought a 91 NA 2.1L and had to replace the entire shifter housing. i got the car home after making the repair at the sellers home.
An 87 SPG i had bought a month earlier is sitting in the back alley - i go out to start it up, it suddenly develops same problem i just fixed on the 91. i had to swap that shifter housing out to even get the car to start.
so there u go.
