On trailer tongue weight and hauling with a 900T Posted by ZAAB [Email] (#685) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ZAAB) on Sat, 28 Jun 2008 06:20:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So I have been driving my 1992 900 3dr Turbo with my 4x8 trailer...it weighs 350 lbs. I load it with ~5-700 lbs of my crap, and drive ~2H to Boston...
1. Tongue weight has varied and I find that ~50-70 lbs is perfect...I went as high as 100, and as low as 20...Least upward lift during bumps (20 lbs) as well as least -drag-the-ass syndrome with 100 at the far back.
2. Boosting above 1/4 yellow just does not help on a hill. Makes sense. Also did not want to blow out the turbo. Full boost occurs very easily at take off from the gate....kinda fun, but not worth it.
3. Over 1000 lbs is tough, and really just wasn't safe, mostly for lack of ability to accelerate in traffic when someone cuts me off...I was then stuck at 50 in a 65 (read 80 mph)..my car puts out ~190 bhp with 3bar FPR, tweaked APC, good gas,
4. Towing finds the weak spots in your cooling and braking system. I have gotten a new radiator, thermostat, and finally figured it out (again) that the return overflow line to the puke tank clogs with crap...no fan switch flux to turn on the fan. Also, brake accumulator (bomb) was losing pressure...however, these two things were well worth the replacement...both were 130 dollars and GMpartsdirect is a good company for the bomb.
