You could do the inner boot without completely removing the axle but that is very difficult.f you still need to do everything necessary to remove the axle except remove the 32mm axle nut, you would pull one of the ball joints, then pull the axle outward and the tripod bearing would come off the cup (you need to undo the clamp and help the boot off first - it sticks).
Suggest you remove the entire half shaft (axle) and if you have circlip pliers you can remove the tripod bearing and then replace the inner boot. BE VERY CAREFUL with the tripod bearing, it is more fragile than the CV joint. clean everything, slip the small clamp on, then slip the boot on, there is a detent in the axle that is where you want the clamp when the rubber is there the clamp will slip over it.
put the tripod bearing on, new circlip from the boot kit, put the grease in and on, push grease into the bearings with your finger and rotate the bearings take your time and get them "happy".
put it back together being careful to get the tripod bearing in the receiver.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING AT LEAST TWO JACK STANDS and i like to leave the floor jack under the jackpoint too, just in case.
