look for proof of trans work/replacements. lacking that, check thoroughly for whining gears, and popping out of gears- on or off the power. being 91/92's, they should not have a dipstick for the trans fluid, so take a 17mm(?) socket and long extension to pull filler bolt/dipstick, and check condition of fluid.
not experienced on turbo failure diagnosis- they are pretty tough, but look for good clean engine oil, proof of service, and no drastic oil leaks anywhere-big oil leaks mean it could have been run low on oil a few times.
performance-don't get too caught up on the turbo boost levels-middle yellow boost does not mean the turbo is failing, just that the car needs a little diy servicing with vac hoses, etc, and maybe some 91+ octane.
check for solid idle from cold, and any overheating (no difference to N/A).
