the trick that worked for me was to have the stick in third, and put an allen wrench that fit that allignment hole in there, i had to kind of bend back the center console to allow me to put the wrench in the hole all the way. so now the stick is locked in third. now go to the shift shaft coming out of the transmission and make sure that it is in third gear. if you dont know how, pull the shaft back and forth until you get it in neutral, and it is able to twist side to side. when its in neutral, pull it towards the firewall and 3rd gear will be engaged. make sure you are doing all of this with the shaft from the stick shift loosely on the shaft from the tranny. if you think the transmission is in third, and the shafts are together, stick still locked in third postion, then tighten down the shift coupler squeeze bolt and give that a run through the gears. it worked twice in a row with my car. good luck
