Help with intermittent front peaker sound Posted by Wil W [Email] (#1148) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Wil W) on Tue, 8 Jul 2008 22:05:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have an aftermarket stereo (Alpine) and speakers on my SPG that the PO had installed. I've had the car since 2001 and the only thing I've done with the stereo is swap the location to the EQ position. In the last year or so, my front right speaker will occasionally go silent. I can get the speaker working again if I isolate the speaker (balance to right, fad to front) and crank up the volume to to max, the speaker will kick in again. Once I reset the fad and balance it works fine for the next few days or so. As it warms up this is happening more often.
Any thoughts on what's the cause? Bad wire splices - I did a couple of simple wire splices for the speakers when I extended wires during the move to the lower slot? Maybe the speakers are getting too old? The head unit is getting too old - I can see this happening with an old dial type volume control but all controls are buttons?
I'm not a huge audiophile and basically use the stereo to listen to a single radio station and only rarely use the CD player so I'd rather not replace the system if possible. I haven't checked into everything yet but wanted to get some ideas.
TIA
