I don't find ZAAB's DIY solution nearly as offensive as the factory-installed rear-mounted spare tires on many SUVs, and Jeeps. They often protrude past the bumper (called that for a reason) and tend to cave in your grill or the front lip of your hood when the idiot parker is the park-by-brail type. "Back, back, back... plenty of room... THUNK... OK, you're good."
I actually pride myself on my parallel parking, learned from many a NYC urban parking-space safari. I live in a rural area now, but I work in Albany. Guys I work with are amazed that I can fit my car or truck in some of the spaces I've fit it in without making contact. To me it's a challenge. It's kind of like the game "Operation". If I do make contact, even the slightest--game over. I've parallel parked my 1994 Dakota 4x4 in spots that were barely 16" longer than the truck without making contact. Once with four of my coworkers watching in disbelief. I'm sure the drivers of the cars in front and behind were calling me an a-hole when they came out to their cars, convinced that I couldn't have gotten in there without a bump or two. I find that those little 2" round convex mirrors that you can apply to your side mirrors are great for seeing what you don't want to hit, including the curb. When I lived in the city, it wasn't uncommon to see taxis (and other cars) with old tires strapped on, fore and aft, for bumping. I guess that's illegal now.
