How to jinx yourself Posted by Saana88 [Email] (#207) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saana88) on Sat, 9 Aug 2008 20:46:42 In Reply to: wheel bearing replacement, BrownSaab, Thu, 7 Aug 2008 13:53:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
On my '88, all four wheel bearings are original at 21 years of age (my car's old enough to purchase alcohol, not that she would want to)! The same applies to the inner and outer drivers, though the RF CV is starting to make more noises in the hard left turn in the parking garage. Our family has had 4 C900s (two of them exclusively mine) and none of 'em have chewed any wheel bearings yet.
The fleet:
'85 900, 190k, RIP
'90 900, 141k, RIP
'88 900, 228k, still kickin'
'92 900SC, 135k
While I admit I've never taken them to an autocross, the '88 has had summer tires on when I felt like flying around corners quite a few times; the same applies for the convertible. I don't take my time in the curves, and neither did the owner of the '85. This was back when wheel bearings were made from hardened steel and expected to last 200k on average. Nowadays the wheel bearing industry is centered in China and they end up lasting 45k. "Customer states right rear wheel stopped moving." I hope my 900s never die!
