In an auto you dont....
38 MPG in a C900 5 speed? Coasting downhill perhaps? best I saw in mine was 30 max on the highway.....anyone else have similar exp? Seems like a reach....
_____________As noted that's Imperial gallons - roughly 4.6 liters to the imp gallon compared to 3.8 to the US gallon.
BTW the manual for my 86 900 base model - lists a whole bunch of 900s never available in the US for middle east and far east, australia, japan canada - they also list expected mpg as the following:
carburetor
four speed: 90kmh 42.8, 120kmh 29.4
five speed: 90kmh 44.1, 120kmh 29.7
automatic: 90kmh 35.3, 120kmh 24.6
900i 5speed 90kmh 41.5 120kmh 29.4
others listed turbo, 16 valve and CD with 5 speed
the carbed 5 speed model gets slightly the best mileage overall on the highway matched closely by the 16 valve and then the 8 valve with cis - overall the turbo automatic gets the worst mileage
a mileage of 38mpg highwayat 100kmh for an 8 vale NA is not unthinkable according to these standards
