The back of the radio has a connector that mates with contacts at the rear of the radio cage. So pressing on the radio makes the contacts mate better.
Assuming you've got the radio code...
Pop the radio out, and spray the contacts on the radio and at the back of the radio cage with contact cleaner (available at most Radio Shack stores). Do this with the radio well out of the car and wear eye protection - the stuff comes out quickly and can bounce around. It also can stain upholstery. I usually put the little tube into the connector and cover it with a paper towel. Don't drown it, just a few squirts. Let it dry completely (10 minutes or so).
I need to do that about every 2 years with my cars. The speakers get crackly and sometimes you get a buzz or two. Do that before diving into wiring. The most common place for something to have a bad connection is where there is a connection - at the connector.
