Probably not a DI issue Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Sat, 23 Aug 2008 20:50:49 In Reply to: DIC related to overheating?, Valpo Fz, Sat, 23 Aug 2008 16:13:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I can't come up with a way for ignition to cause overheating and not show up as a massive driveability issue.
If the temperature gauge is running high but the radiator fan isn't coming on, I'd suspect the thermostat is sticking closed. The radiator fan comes on when the radiator is hot, not the engine. The radiator fan is there to supply cooling air when the car isn't moving; at 30 mph or so, the airflow from movement is much more than the radiator fan can provide. If the thermostat is sticking closed, the heat stays in the engine loop (where the temperature sensor is), and little or no gets out to the radiator.
I'd suspect the thermostat. If the cooling system has been open, the 900 cooling system has to be bled; an air bubble could cause overheating. By overheating, I assume the temp gauge was in the red; if the temp gauge wasn't that high, but you got steam, then your radiator reservoir cap is loose or needs replacement.
