"You don't have code dropping issues with the other CD deck, but that deck doesn't work properly (assume you mean the CD doesn't play?)"
- Correct.
BTW- the EQ work fine in both units...

"or a problem of disconnecting itself from the radio/cassette deck just long enough to appear as though the deck was pulled out."
- Yes looks like it.. As I remember, you can pull out the CD/EQ unit and insert it again while the car is powered off with out having to enter the code.. Meaning that my CD/EQ unit is not causing troubles while the car is shut off, but do have a connection problem that the head unit finds out about when powered up.... Some times the problem have stayd on for only a few minutes and sometimes for an hour before it would accept the code.... Strange...

I forgot to mention that the problem always shows up after the car has been shut off except a few days ago when I (with the stereo playing) touched the upper right corner of the CD/EQ unit and the radio immediately stopped and asked for the code.... I suspected the front cover since it was a bit loose, but fixing the front by pressing it firmly so the small tappets could hold it, did not solve anything... It must be something regarding the communication between the radio and the CD/EQ, but is it just a simple hi/low signal that signals "I am here" or is it some kind og actual communication on the C-bus like when the CD-changer answers a "are you there" request from CD/EQ unit??? (I do not have a CD-changer)...
