Except for 1985 that had a fatter shaft. To the best of my knowledge, barring the 85' quirk, the only difference is the type of connector. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe all pre & post 85' Hall effect internals are interchangable.
If your wiring harness is old & britle (likely), you might want to splice in a newer pigtail & length of harness (carefully, w/proper shielding to avoid RFI), then get rbld kit w/matching style of connector.
Check your vacuum advance diaphragm too. Before investing in a rebuild kit, why not go salvage yard hopping & see if you can find another distributor? All you need is a 13mm wrench...& a rag.
BTW, you said previously that the car has an 87' drive train & wiring...so refering to it as an 89' will get you wrong advice on some issues. Just my 2 cents.
