Over the years, I've found the C900 hood so easy to remove that I take it off for almost anything more than a filter change. two bolts and the washer hose, and rest it on the roof, using a blanket, or (even better) a 2'x2' or larger piece of soft foam between the roof and the hood.
Once upon a time, when C900s were more common at the dealers, they would get in new, primed hoods from Saab, and they were shipped in a BIG cardboard box, with three strategically placed formed Styrofoam blocks. One at each read corner, and one in the center at the front. I managed to get a set of these from my dealer. So if I ever did need to remove the hood and could not or would not rest it on the roof (rare occurrence...), I had the two foam blocks to protect the rear corners of the hood while it rested against a wall.
I've never had one fall off the roof, but then, I suppose if you do have a really slippery wax job on it (and the roof) it could happen.
The extra access afforded by removing the hood is well worth taking the time to remove it, IMO.
