I'm afraid I cannot offhand tell you which is the supply and which is the return. I can tell you that there is no useful or easy way to repair the high-pressure supply line - JB Weld will not seal the plastic fuel lines at all. Depending on where the break is, you might be able to use high-pressure fuel line and a couple hose clamps as a repair - Saab is pretty unusual in terms of the fittings it uses. Most cars go with high quality rubber and hose clamps at junctions, whereas Saab is a single plastic piece from tip to tail.
If the engine started and ran at all, you've got the "polarity" right. The fuel pump, return line, etc couldn't cause a 4000rpm idle. That's the result of something else - bad computer, airflow meter, stuck throttle, etc.
