It's not clear what the problem is. Start with the basics - does it accelerate well, and can you get full boost? That's a good start.
Beyond that, can you be more specific about the noise? If it's a changed exhaust note, it might be as simple as a bad exhaust. The muffler does a lot to, well, muffle the sound of a turbo.
The turbo spins just about all the time the engine is running - more so at higher revs, but spin nevertheless. However, once you go to yellow on the gauge, the pressure is above ambient atmospheric. So if you have a crack in a hose, you could be hearing the sound of air blowing out of the crack. Intakes make a lot of noise; the air filter and other plumbing do a lot of muffling.
Bad turbo seals will send out black (blue, actually) smoke. But bad turbo bearings can make a racket as the turbine blades hit the case of the turbo. That'll be more of a whine or a screech.
I'm assuming the sound is a loud pop or rumble that varies in tone with the speed of the engine - the sound you'd get with a bad muffler. But if you could be more specific about the sound, where the sound seems to be coming from, and the performance of the engine otherwise, it would help.
And based on missing such a sound, then suggesting better gas, and missing a possible turbo failure (bearings screech, not smoke), I wouldn't capitalize - this sounds like a lower case saab mechanic at best.
