Mystery solved!!!

A few weeks ago I posted a mystery question as to how tranny oil can be getting into the engine crankcase as in my Saab. I received helpful responses, but it wasn't until I asked the Guru of Saabs in the midwest at Graham motors in Sioux falls, SD, Leroy where he came up with the solution. One of two ways: the failure of the transmission gasket on the side where the bolt holes turn into the casing of the tranny or a crack/hole in the top of the tranny. Well, after pulling the engine and splitting the tranny, I found a small thumbnail hole just alongside the tranny above the the propellor shaft that was much like a bullet hole from inside the gear case. This led me to open the inspection port at the differential to find, alas, a small piece of gear that flew up at one point to cause the puncture. What was more amazing it was left behind by the previous owner who had replaced the planetary gears!!! I found the transmission to be in pristine condition as I had put 150,000 on it before the problem occurred keeping the gear oil clean and filtered. WoW!!!I rinsed out the tranny crankcase to be sure of no other demons cleaned the crack and repaired it with JB weld and have just completed a trouble free 1,000 checkup with the oil levles right on target!!!!! Thank you Leroy of Sioux Falls!!!!
