nice write up. Sometimes it is the knuckle clamp, sometimes the steering rack is going away. are the boots in place on each end of the rack and in good condition? have you had to add steering fluid to it? If all of that looks good the easy thing to try first is to get a turkey baster (buy a new on for the wife and take her old one) put a hose clamp around the junction of the bulb and the tube, do this first as it will get very slippery there if fluid slips past... and suck as much of the fluid as you can from the resivor. add new fluid. get that inexpensive gallon jug, Pyrol is one brand, and then drive it for a day, keep doing this until the fluid is very clean looking and see if the steering is happy? Also you can spray PB blaster or WD 40 or whatever you have *directly* on the clamp and joint to see if it is dragging there.
Let us know how it goes, good for the collective!
