put it into first gear, keep your feet off the pedals, and turn and hold the starter to see if the car moves... If so the transmission is most likely ok. A longer test is to remove the plugs and the fuse for the fuel pump (30 on some models?) and see how strong your battery is... put in second and turn and hold the key to the starter position and drive on the starter motor... then as this is happening push the clutch in and see if it disengages even a little bit.
I use this trick to move cars that are not running at the time for one reason or another. Exhaust or intake removed, turbocharger or something not on the car so I can really "start" it, but need to move it into the garage to work on it.
If you push the clutch do you feel any resistance? and you pump it 10-15 times and get more resistance? Are you leaking and adding fluid? These three items would point to either a slave or a master cylinder going out.
Last question, was the engagement getting closer to the floor recently?
