303 Fabric Guard will make the top waterproof/resistant not 303 Protectant. Protectant protects from UV rays, mostly used on plastic and rubber. Works great on the dash and exterior rubber/plastic such as the rear spoiler. If you use Fabric Guard, make sure the top is clean and dry first. Raggtop is another such product line for the top.
When I stored my TC outside during the winter, after cleaning, I put a plastic sheet over the top and side windows so any water drained down the paint not into the body. Then I covered the car in a decent breathable water resistant cover of tyvek that I got from Walmart for $65. Tie down the cover under the car so it doesn't blow around and shift the top plastic.
