I think we've all done that one time or another.
The e-brake is on the rear wheels, and its designed to "self adjust" for brake pad wear. Your pads might be worn too their limits, but if not, you should just be able to apply, release, apply, release the handbrake lever about 15-20 times. I feel like that's worked on my 90 SPG once -- give it a shot.
While still on level ground / car in neutral (doesnt need to be on), just raise and lower the level. When you raise it, make sure to go a few clicks (until it feels stiff!).
See if that works -- if not, then you probably need new brake pads in the rear or your brake calipers have become jammed. Or they could just be severely out of adjustment and there's a way to adjust them (search here or take to your mechanic).
