Disagree-sorry! Remove the door, with the hinge mech, Posted by nicknick [Email] (#731) [Profile/Gallery] (more from nicknick) on Sun, 28 Dec 2008 08:03:31 In Reply to: Re: Driver's Door Blown Wide Open by a Strong Wind, No Snaab, Sun, 28 Dec 2008 07:17:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
then remove hinge from door (top hinge). examine the left and right hinges to see what is wrong-there is a star shaped cam, and it is supposed to nudge up against a pin. when the door gets opened too far by wind (like on my old '92 hatch), the pin slides under the cam, if i recall, and the bracket for the cam needs to be straightened.
The reason i said to remove the door is because i fixed mine in a hurry, it was never right (had to go back in many times), and i damaged the door and frame with my large pry bars. The best idea is to replace the hinge assembly-it just bolts off, and you can pretty much use the old paint marks to line up the new one.
Also, i did, at one time, remove only the top hinge, while resting the door on a box. Wouldn't really recommend it. seemed a little dangerous to me.
good luck, get it fixed.
