Make sure that the mechanic installed the U shaped clamp that goes over the front mount. If it is not installed, there can be movement in the shift housing. I took one off a parts car to put on a car where the PO "mechanic" had not reinstalled the clamp, and the feeling was very pronounced in the shifter after taking it off the donor car.
Lancer is suggesting wedging a hard piece of rubber between the U clamp and the top of the motor mount. This does help to contain movement.
