As my wife describes it she was driving fine down I-90, exited at Janesville and noticed she was having trouble keeping up with everyone else. Soon the car could only go 50 mph then continued to slow down. The engine would continue to rev though wasn't really moving how it should. She pulled into a residential area's parking lot and all of a sudden a bunch of steam started coming out from the hood and anti-freeze started falling on the ground.

This is an automatic that was doing fine with no problems or slipping and this morning I checked the trans fluid before she left and it was full and seemed normal.

The engine was running a little rough and the local saab mechanic thought it was the aic valve so earlier this week I followed advice on this forum and tried to clean it out. The valve inside seemed to be loose, rattle, and I'm told this is good though I still had a rough idle.

I was concerned about the head gasket because there are some dark spots on the overflow for the anti-freeze though I'm not loosing any anti-freeze.

When I checked the oil before her trip it was at the proper level though seemed a little watery and a little darker than it should be. Not overly dark, just at the level where a car normally is when it's time for an oil change though it's only been about 1,500 - 2,000 miles since the last oil change.

I hope some of this helps and very much appreciate everyone's input. Well maybe the Rockford analogy about Angel yelling about Jim didn't help much though life takes all kinds to keep it interesting.
