I tried holding it in and slowly releasing the clutch, Gears just grinded and it popped the shifer back to neuteral. I tried to do the linkage adjustment per the Bently, but dang, I can barely get a wrench on the linkage rod clamp nut. There is no room to turn the wrench. And that was from the top of the engine, reaching down. From under the car I can't even get a wrench on it. THe steering rack, some rods and hoses are in the way. and I don't know how tight the tolernces are, I used a piece of wire coat hanger for the "special Saab tool" that goes thru the hole in the shaft, and a 3/8 drill bit (1/4 wouldn't fit) for the pilot hole to hold the shifter in 3rd. Given that I was able to do that with out loosening the clamp, I don't see what loosening the clamp and retightening it would do. So I'm still starting of in 2nd. Glad I don't live in Pittsburgh.
