Greetings fellow C900 enthusiasts,

This board has been very helpful to me and I appreciate all of you who have contributed their expertise and knowledge about the Classic 900. I hope to share what I have learned in my experiences too.

Background:
Earlier this week I posted questions relating to my lower control breaking.
http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/900/index.html?bID=384563
http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/900/index.html?bID=384768

I removed the lower control arm and brackets out of the passenger-side and noticed something odd about the new bushing size.
In the attached photograph (http://themusicoflife.org/SAAB/images/SAAB_900_lower_control_arm_bushings.jpg) you’ll notice that the new bushing is smaller than the currently installed bushing.

Now the Questions:
Is the new ScanTech lower control arm bushing (Part Code: 7184443; http://www.eeuroparts.com/Main/PartDetail.aspx?id=7184443) the incorrect size or will it enlarge to the bracket once it’s ‘squeezed’ in? How long do you think this bushing will last (New Mexico)?

Should I even bother to replace the original SAAB bushings (have not gotten to the drivers-side bushings yet)? They don’t seem to be damaged, deformed, or torn, but there is a lot of grimy gunk near the edges of the bushings. 160,000 miles are on car.

Finally, these brackets were filthy. I did clean them off with hot soapy water, a brillo pad, and a wire brush. I should probably paint the brackets before I re-install them in the car.
What type of paint would you recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Jason
