Well, I went out and took a look at the car; the damage to the rear was just as it appeared in the photos. It got hit on the right read corner of the bumper. I didn't look to see if there was frame damage because I didn't get that far, and I don't know if I would be able to tell anyway.
Pardon my ignorance, I don't know what these parts are called. There was a serious squeak coming from the pulley that runs the belt (idler pulley?).
The brakes were practically non-existent, and I did the quick brake pump test that I saw on here, and it took eight pumps before the ABS light came on. The pedal was like a brick, with very little give.
Generally the car had relatively little body rust, but the bottom of the engine compartment was pretty rusty; the battery tray was rusted through.
My main concern is that there was oil leaked all over the bottom of the engine and the engine compartment. There was smoke from somewhere where it was leaking. The guy told me all Saabs leak, as if oil all over the engine was normal. I was skeptical.
The clutch felt o.k. and didn't slip, as far as I could tell, and the transmission felt strong.
Needless to say, I passed. I really would have liked to bring it to a Saab indy, but I don't know the area, and it's a holiday weekend.
Ah, well, the search goes on.
