Fluid should ..Not.. get 'slushy' Likely yours is Crap and full of moisture A full /thorough Fluid flush is immediately necessary.
Refill with DOT 4
Air in system could be number of things: Poor intial bleed, Leaking hose and or junctions, dying Master cyl, dying Slave cyl or ALL of the above.
Master cyl failure is V common and expected sooner or later, Slave as well although a well done 'fresh' one can/should last the life of the Clutch plate. IF not replaced at the car's last clutch replacement then I would Do that first.. today. Often Using Syringe full of Fluid Attahced to the bleed nipple , used as a reverse flush, this will drive air bubbles back up into the Master Cyl's reservoir and out of the system neatly. Assuming the system is not worn out junk.. where nothing short of a full rebuild is mandatory.
