1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
Hello,
I am just about completing a full restoration including an auto to manual conversion of my 1990 convertible (all details will follow in the projects thread soon...). Anyway, tonight I connected up the battery to check all electrical systems and to crank the engine. Everything tested good. I then began looking in to the wiring to get the convertible roof to work. Looking at the pictures below you will see the differences between the wiring for the convertible automatic (red car) and the manual 5 door donor car (blue). All wiring to the ignition block is the same, but the convertible has a green wire and orange wire extra on the shift selector. I am assuming one or both of these cables are here to detect the car being in PARK and therefore to let the roof work (along with the handbrake being on)?
These pictures were taken a few weeks ago just before I swapped the auto selector with the manual one from the blue car. I have since removed the the black triangular auto selector switch thing and joined the yellow/red and yellow wires together to allow the ignition to work (these made a circuit when the selector was in PARK as well). I am therefore left with the green and orange cables disconnected. Needless to say my roof will not operate with the car in this state. Can anyone tell me what the green and orange cables do, and better still what I should do to get the roof working? Prior to all of this work when the car was an AUTO the roof operation was 100% and I have nothing to suggest anything else is amiss here apart from the lack of connection of the orange and green cables. For information the green cable has a steady 12V on it at all times...
Looking forward to your replys. TIA Angus
