Doug, the Stainless Steel exhaust system will not rust. The fit and finish was exceptional. As a matter of fact it does look pretty cool...
The performance improvement on a turbo application is not because of the stainless steel, but because of the larger diameter. The original turbo exhaust system is 60mm diameter, approximately 2 3/8". The stainless steel exhaust system that I got from Brad Schaffner of Kansas City Saab is 2 1/2" from the cat back, but also has a split down pipe that merges into 3". This system is fitted to one of my '91 convertibles with the stock Mitsubishi TE05-12B turbo. The power gain is from splitting the waste gate flow from the main exhaust flow and then merging it back in down stream.
The stainless steel exhaust system that I got from Dave Kennedy (formerly with Group 9 Performance) is 3" from the Garrett T3 turbo to the tail pipe on one of my '89 SPGs. The photo is from one of my black '89 SPGs.
