Once had a clients vehicle which was put together with what looked to be blue RTV. The reason it was at the shop, the valve was leaking from this union with the core. So from my experience, don't. Customer had the valve replaced 2 months prior at a gas station just prior to moving to FL.
Try Ace Hardware or similar for a larger selection of o-rings. Should be easy to match up since the valve has recessed spots where the o-rings go.
If you cannot find anywhere, the two rings are available from Saab. PN 9479213 and 9479221. However, they come in five quantity packs and cost $4 each so your looking at $40 there.
