Did the fuel pump originally come with rubber hoses??

I ask this because when I replaced the fuel pump in my '93, the pump lines on the new pump were all a type of hard plastic. The lines on the replaced pump had been retrofitted by PO to a rubber line that had disintegrated in the gasoline to a tarry sludge. This, in turn, made its way to the filter which was completely gummed up starving the engine of fuel. Very hard to start.
