Curt,
HID bulbs have the arc between its electrodes while H4 bulbs have filament and both these light sources are having different geometry (btw, the arc is MOVING a bit back and forth while filament always stays on its place). Thus HID- and incandescent-based headlights must be of different design cause otherwise you'll have poor light output (in terms of road illumination) and you'll most probably dazzle other drivers. I bet you do know that one can't replace his H4 with H7 or HB3 or any other bulbs, right?
Why did you decided to go with HIDs? Poor output? Check your bulbs (they're to be replaced every two years), wiring (bad wiring drops the voltage) and reflector (the main part of a headlight).
You love HID cause of its design? Ok, no problem. But do it the right way and get smth like on the shot below. This won't be an one-hour project but it's the best and the only right HID-mod available for C900. Let me know if you need some advices on glass polish and such.
