Hi, thanks again for the replies on my last adventure regarding the back-to-original radio replacement, which is almost complete (waiting for eq cables to arrive)
The other (much more serious) issue I'm facing is engine performance. Idling is pretty poor, exhaust is pitch black, and the stench coming out of it can probably kill a horse in a minute I guess :p. Still, it's pretty driveable disregarding the rough idle, obviously fuel economy and the whole lot of black in the exhaust.
Now, my fuel injection config may seem odd at least in terms of US cars (since mine is euro-spec). I have a -017 AMM, and a -573 ECU on a 1991 car. Non turbo, non catalyst. I attempted to check this with the tables on Larry West's site (great site, thanks for the info Larry!) but my config seems to apply to B202L engines which AFAIK are turbo engines, so at that point the mess in my car doesn't seem to add up.
BOTH the AMM and ECU have been at some time tampered with. The ECU has had what I assume is the main processor replaced (picture here-> http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/8600/2206090100.jpg) and the number on the new processor doesn't match the number on the opposite side of the board which is 2288321495-4 instead of the 2287356506 printed on the processor. I am still to test the AMM but it doesn't look in good shape (the hot wire seems to have a copper-like coating, might is as well be a copper wire?).
So, going now to the actual question: should I try to get my 2.2 to work, or would I be better off switching to 2.4 according to Justin's article? (Justin, kudos on that!). I'm not sure if the switch will be feasible considering I have no catalytic converter. On the other hand this thread http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/900/index.html?bID=387912 makes me think I will never get too good of a result if I keep my 2.2.
Any input will be most appreciated; at the very least I'd like to get the car to burn fuel reasonably well
Thanks and regards!
