I did this to my SPG, and it would rub, lightly loaded, over bumps. With a full load, I think it is almost certain.
You can move the axle forward, which is the best solution, and you already know about. And/or you extend the bumpstops, which is easy. In the end I did both for my tires not to rub.
Extending the bumpstops is easy:
- Remove rear tires (jack, block and support car appropriately)
- get a long hex (6mm I think). A hex that fits onto a ratchet wrench is easiest, as this is a long bolt that takes time to come out. A regular hex key can be used, but is PITA due to space restraints.
- remove the bumpstop bolt (bumpstop will come out with it).
- Place about 3mm worth of washers on the bolt between bumpstop and car body, and reassemble.
Drive and test. I did not notice the loose of the 2-3 mm in comfort, performance, or any other way.
