If 86 was the transition year I can tell you there is absolutely no difference in any one of the FI components from front to to back between my 84 CIS and 86 CIS.Fuel lines, pump, injectors, ELCD, etc - identical.
An absolute guess on my part is that the engineers made no changes in these components and changes that did show up in later LH models would have been to basic replaceable components like O rings etc.
The reason I make this guess is that the engineers really didn't "know" what effects it would have in the long run on non-wear items that were supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle and therefore attributing premature failure to one particular fuel additive/type and recommending change would have been difficult from a bean counter's perspective and therefore unwarranted financially.
Any engineers/accountants out there?
