'85-'88 turbo ECUs are all 100% compatible. There are some differences in the chassis wiring, but the components and pinout are all the same.
I'd try for an '87/'88 ECU, but your problem really sounds like a bad AMM, *maybe* a bad AIC.
These cars are very sensitive to post-throttlebody vacuum leaks. The brass port on the throttlebody housing can leak, but it shouldn't cause idle problems assuming the TPS works and is properly set.
