Ran my 83 900T (227K) with only three cylinders firing (one spark plug wire came off) for close to100 miles, sending 1/4 of the fuel into the catalytic converter. My indie aimed a temperature gauge (with a light beam) to the converter and pronounced it dead, because its temperature was not high enough to reflect any HC burning.
The car was due for a Califonian smog check, I bought a catalytic converter, without installing it, just in case. But, the car passed the smog check with flying colors! the HC reading was super low. Forgot the reading, but it was low, low, low.
So, what happened?
