Unless the design of the rubber bellows spring has changed, it should be compressible easily in one hand while off the slave cylinder body. Once inserted in half of the sheet metal holder, the spring should stay compressed and not pop out, if sheet metal is thick enough (mine is 0.030-inch steel). Then other half of holder is inserted onto other half of spring squeezing it a little. If the cut metal edges of the holder are rounded over with a small file, they are not likely to cut the thick rubber spring bellows or one's fingers.
