Exhaust coming from dipstick

I am trying to help a friend with a U.S. 1990 Saab 900 Turbo with 200,000 miles. Exhaust is coming out of the dipstick. The PCV valve on the cam cover works properly. Compression is 150 150 140 160. 3,000 miles on new headgasket.
140 compression is lower than the others but not by much. Is that enough to cause blow-by? How else can exhaust get to the crank case except around the rings and the (brand new) headgasket?
Car does not idle well, either. Not sure if related. I have ruled out MAF, Jetronic brain, idle control valve, throttle switch, and vacuum leaks from intake manifold. Car will barely run at idle speeds for first 30 seconds in morning, then idles a little rough but at proper 850-900 rpm for a minute, then rises slowly to 1500-1800 then drops to 1000-1100 then rises again. Off-idle performance is fine, turbo boost is normal, as is gas mileage.
A search here said to pinch off idle valve hose to see what happens: car dies. But a friend said that doesn't mean anything. Should car idle even if the idle valve hose is crimped shut?
