Car Dies When Hot

Hi,
I have a '92 900 convertible. Some years ago, shortly after I bought the vehicle, it started to die every time I pulled to a stop, but only in hot (>85 F ) weather.
I took this into the shop I used at the time, and they apparently knew exactly what the problem was. As I remember, they said the Throttle Body Switch was getting too hot, and that all they needed to do is move the unit farther from the engine. At the time, I didn't know where this little gizmo was, but the fix worked, and cost me nothing.
Now, maybe 8 years later? it just started frequently dying again. I happened to be driving by my current mechanic just as it started to die chronically. I stopped and asked if they new anything about the throttle body thingy, and they pointed me to it, but said the problem was likely the mass flow sensor(?) after making sure there were no vacuum leaks.
Well, fiddling with throttle body switch seems to at least temporarily alleviated the problem again, and after securing it away from the engine, I'm going to watch it over the weekend (expected 100 F temperatures) to see whether the car stalls.
Question is, Is there any merit to this, or am I only witnessing a coincidence that will delay the real repair?
Thanks
Jeff
