I just finished swapping a better dash pad and dash with Saab accessory guage pod in the upper DIN slot. What a PITA. The donor vehicle is a '92 and the project is an'87. Thanks to the board I was able to discover that I needed to swap the A-pillar trim with the pad. The project vehicle had a dash light problem prior to the swap. The speed, tach guages were the only lights that worked. I'm so skilled that after the swap nothing worked. Checked out a few things on the board regarding "Rheostats" and wiring. I jumped right into it again. I discovered that the accessory guage pod lights were toast along with the lights for cigarette lighter, heater switch and ash tray. The auto parts store only had 4 lights. I replaced those. Tried the lights again, nope! Now comes the Multi meter. I started at the switch rheostat, easier to get to. No voltage. Inspected the wires and found one of the green wires must have broke off what ever it was connected to. I thought that I could jump it to the green wire coming from the light switch. I checked voltage on the spade connector at the switch, zero. I swapped the switch from donor, power at last. I spliced the green wires and "presto" lights. The bonus both the rheostats are also working. I put every thing back together and here is the problem. Those darn dash screws. What were they thinking? Has anyone come up with a way of mounting this dash that doesn't use the flip'n screws? The problem is that most of the tabs on the dash the hold the tubes are broke. It is a real challenge to line everything up with out those tubes in place. Thanks to all on the list for the useful information.
