I replaced my ABS /master cylinder unit a while ago, and it wasn't hard, just tedious. The pump can't be removed alone due to how it is attached to the master cylinder. The coolant reservoir need to be un-bolted leaving the hoses attached, and moved and secured out of the way. The air cleaner intake needs to be removed. The alternator stays. Remove the accumulator from the old unit. Remove the 4 hydraulic lines that go to the master cylinder and the proportioning valve above the wheel well. I completely removed the lines, as they must be removed from the master cylinder anyway, and the ABS unit can't be removed easily with them still connected to the valve.
Inside the car, remove the knee bolster. Unbolt the lower air tunnel, and remove. Move the insulation out of the way. Now for the fun. You can now reach the 4 bolts that hold the unit in place and the brake pedal pin. Remove the pin first; the clip holding the pin is a bit strange. You have to pry it off, but do so carefully, saving it. Remove the pin, TAKING NOTE of how the brake pushrod fits in the brake pedal assembly. Removing the 4 nuts is tedious, due to awkward angles. Once that is done, remove old unit by pulling up and out, clearing the studs.
When installing new unit, make sure the pushrod fits correctly into the assembly. Assembly is the reverse, etc., etc. When bleeding, follow instructions in Bentley manual.
To the best of my memory, that's it.
