Oh CRAP! I have been down this road before. This happened to my son's 1986 900S. He turned the key off without resistance and the car kept running. The engagement tab on the gearset below the key switch had broken off. Something very similar happened to me last night. I stopped at the auto parts store to get oil and a filter for my son's Mustang. When I came out I turned the key and had no resistance. I recalled that I was able to push start my son's car to get it started and drive it home. I gave it a try and got it started and drove home. I haven't got it completely disassembled yet but I am putting my money on the broken tab. If not, I am doing alot of extra work for nothing.
