Black cap is the low pressure side.Lower fitting! Try jumping the compressor when filling until the compressor runs without needing to jumper. Do this at the plug on the drier at the passenger side fender. Use "Arctic Freeze" brand if you want a system that's really gets cold. %50% colder and developed by NASA. The only problem I've had with some of the conversion fittings is that they release the freon when screwed in place. Just use it to charge them and then remove quickly. Watch out for burnt fingers. Best to add a can of sealant before the freon to help seal these old systems.
