I'm changing a torn outer boot and trying to do it without taking off the axle nut per previous posts.
Caliper off, steering control arm removed and the top ball joint bolts removed and the hub swung out slightly.
Old boot removed and the CV sprayed clean so I can see the shaft circlip.
What I can't seem to manage is the circlip. How do you tell when it is far enough open to pull the shaft out. It's hard to see back there and what if the shaft is sticking in the CV?
Never done one of these before. I'm wondering if it's easier just to take the whole hub rotor etc axle out of the car? I guess I just need to loosen the tripod bearing boot and the bearing slides out of the cup? I dont see any retainers?
All advice appreciated!!
