Usual bi yearly trip to Pittsburgh from KY to help 87 YO Dad do some work. Using 1990 sedan daily driver (900S 5 speed). Never missed a beat at 75-80 mph and got 27.3 mpg. Small issues no A/C (just haven't had it charged); 90 degree weather windows down. So at end of trip so is the headliner (knew it was due). Entire car and me covered with head liner foam and glue the consistency of sticky saw dust, but next morning got all that cleaned up so head liner form is now clean and ready to remove in future. Feels like a good thing, especially after a shower and clean cloths. Decide to move car into yard to avoid over spray from patio cover wash, but later backing to road dug the tail pipe in grass, bent the tail pipe at rear resonator, and broke rear rubber exhaust hanger. No problem have many spare parts in trunk. DRAT trunk won't open. Will go through license plate light access hole and open, but have torx screw head sockets in trunk with new tail pipe hanger. Have to go to store to get more house washing soap so get a $5 racheting screw driver with all types of attachments from Home Depot. Nice tool. Get back to Dads, notice trip mileage now at 500 miles since Monday when I left KY; small sense of satisfaction only had to glue pass side mirror glass back on. Remove L then right license plate light, but can't do the usual easy open of trunk. Remove headrest of rear seat (darn things must never have been off in 19 years. Glad all that wrench bending and dismantling of 94 vert suspension as kept me strong (well compared to not doing such), access trunk after forwarding rear seat. Remove lots of stuff (trunk packed to mass capacity) get handy 2 for $5 LED flashlight I bought at Auto Zone. Crawl into trunk . See two loosened torx screws that hold latch to trunk are very loose. Tighten, crawl out, open trunk. Put all the stuff back in through front and trunk lid access. Feel happy; put on new tail pipe hanger with average amt of cussing while laying in dirt and large gravel stones. Shake tail pipe. No rattle. Get shower, watch Steelers beat Cardinals again again ( but I repeat myself). Feel somewhat better even though Pittsburgh tried to give it away as usual. Later at 00:30 drive to Wal-mart to get phone charger (left my house one (three)in KY. like a DA. Listen to what had been a very quiet car rattle it's exhaust like the GF's 94 vert. Get home (to Dad's) . See tail pipe is bent at rear resonator, and although rest of exhaust looks real clean and rust free notice resonator looks rusty and has a hole where tail pipe was bent and exited. Have complete new exhaust system in spare room in KY. plan to drummel off resonator and only put that part on. Use rest of new exhaust with the Stainless steel tail pipe I bought from England on "Gee" Bay. Plan late night flight on Friday after dinner from Pa and hope I don't meet any more self induced mechanical issues. Am happy I have my Saab (s). Feel content stalling to avoid washing rest of patio cover, hope not to break down going to KY, Love my Saab. I reapeat myself; am stuck in Swedish worship mode. Could own a new car but NEVER. High taxes (KY taxes a car like it's a house) and insurance each year; gas mileage and safety likely not as good. Am only one on road so far that has one (thats all I can drive at a time [saw no other Saabs of Classic Gen or even the newer GM version). Feel better now. Cheaper than a $10 co pay for my shrink (Hi Mark [if you bothered out of respect for our friendship). Best get to work. The gremlins are always about.
