If you're just moving the wheel a spline or two to one side, you don't have to worry about much. Make sure the car is off, and for added safety, disconnect the battery and leave it sit for 30 minutes or so.
make sure the wheels are pointing straight ahead.
Remove the airbag (two TORX screws behind the steering wheel),
disconnect the wire to the airbag,
set the airbag to the side, resting face up,
using a 22mm socket, loosen the nut holding the wheel on,
DO NOT remove the nut all the way,
rock the wheel at the edges alternatelly right-left and up-down, while pulling up,
the wheel should come off the splines easily, and be stopped by the nut. Remove the nut the rest of the way.
NOW: with the wheel loose on the splines, hold onto the airbag wire so it can't fall through the steering wheel slot. Lift the wheel clear of the slpines, rotate in the needed direction slightly, and set it back down on the splines. Check your alignment now. If it's not enough, repeat the above. If it was too much, try going back, but be aware that you may not be able to get it exactly in the middle without turning the tie rods.
Once you're satisfied, put the wheel down on the splines, put the nut (and washer, if equipped) back on, tighten to 28 foot-lbs.
Connect the airbag wire, install the airbag.
The tie rods should be as equal length as possible under the car, and normally should not be used to align the steering wheel.
