While some say don't bother - I think a clean engine has more "breathing room" - and furthermore, a clean frame and other areas allows you to spot leaks earlier and quicker. Next time - just use Tinfoil to cover up anything you are worried about. I usually spray in Gunk Gel, let it sit for 10 minutes, and then start it up cold while I rinse with a power washer (yes, you can use a power washer, so long as you aren't spraying directly at vital areas!). Takes 3-4 minutes to blast the gunk off, and the engine isn't too warm - plus, with it running, you will know if you've hit something like the distributor if it stutters. So long as you are careful, it's a good thing to do.
